Last year, only 11% of films were directed by women.
To help support the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements, we teamed up with Melissa McCarthy, Dee Rees ("Mudbound") and Nancy Meyers ("The Intern") and created an integrated program that brought together the world's largest retailer and Hollywood's biggest night.

Making of the 2018 Walmart campaign "The Box"
"THE BOX"
-Directed by Dee Rees, the first African-American woman to be nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay.
-Starring Mary J. Blige, the first woman to receive two Oscar nominations in the same year.
-Filmed by Rachel Morrison, the first female cinematographer ever nominated for an Oscar.

As part of the platform, one emerging female filmmaker will receive funding to create, produce and distribute their short films.
The fourth and final "Box Film" was created by film student Tracy Aivaz, funded by Walmart at WIF. The winning announcement took place at the Oscars, and the film premiered at the Bentonville Film Festival.
